Care Instructions

Care Instructions -  The Indian Craftsman

Handmade Rug - 100% Wool Pile

  • Environment: Avoid placing in rooms with high humidity or where toxic chemicals are used.
  • Furniture: Protect your rug by avoiding furniture with sharp legs and refrain from walking on the rug with heels.
  • Furniture Moving: Never drag furniture across the rug; this can damage the fibers.
  • Sunlight: Keep the rug away from direct sunlight to prevent color fading due to UV rays.
  • Drying: For drying, prefer natural air drying without the use of heating appliances.
  • Cleaning: Regularly clean with a soft brush or vacuum cleaner. Vacuum more frequently in high-traffic areas.
  • Shedding: A new rug may shed fibers initially; this is normal and will reduce over time.
  • Storage: Store the rug folded into a roll, not folded into quarters, to maintain its shape.
  • Thread Care: If threads start to unravel, do not pull them; carefully trim with scissors.
  • Spills: For liquid spills, blot with a sponge or cloth. Do not rub. For solid spills, consult a dry cleaner immediately.
  • Stain Prevention: Sprinkle talcum powder or starch on spills to absorb before cleaning.
  • Deep Cleaning: Handmade rugs require professional deep cleaning every 24 months. Choose a dry cleaner specializing in handmade rugs.

Handmade Rug - Hand Woven

  • Vacuuming: Regularly vacuum with suction only to remove surface dirt. Avoid using beater brushes as they can damage the pile and fringe.
  • Spills: Clean spills promptly with club soda or water and a clean towel. Avoid using cleaning agents that may affect dyes.
  • Drying: Ensure all layers (top, under surface, and pad) are completely dry before re-laying the rug to prevent mold and mildew.
  • Sunlight: Protect rugs from direct UV sunlight to prevent fading. Consider UV blocking films for windows.
  • Animal Accidents: Flush areas affected by animal urine with club soda and clean water. Ensure the rug is fully dry before repositioning.
  • Moth Protection: Moth-proof rugs with zinc fluorosilicate, especially in dark, low-traffic areas under furniture. Refresh treatment after cleaning.

At the heart of The Indian Craftsman is a love storyβ€”one that is as timeless as the rich traditions of craftsmanship we uphold. Our founders, Deepali and Pran, are not just the creators of this brand, but explorers, visionaries, and storytellers who have traveled the world together, with each journey shaping the brand’s essence. Their passion for excellence, sustainability, and authenticity is woven into every product we offer.

Deepali, a former school teacher, is the creative soul of the company. Her passion for design and her deep connection with the artistry of Indian craftsmanship bring a unique warmth and personal touch to every piece. Her dedication to making homes beautiful and joyful is the core of The Indian Craftsman, where creativity meets purpose, and love is the foundation.

Pran, with over 25 years of expertise in textiles and home products, is the strategic and technical force behind the brand. Having worked with renowned global brands, he recognized the immense gap in the marketβ€”excessive branding and supply chain costs that make home textiles unnecessarily expensive. With a profound knowledge of finance and e-commerce, Pran’s vision is clear: to offer beautifully crafted, high-quality products at their true value.

In 2022, Deepali and Pran decided to rebuild their home and take a step further in bringing their love for craftsmanship to the world. Together, they embarked on a journey to directly reach customers across the globe, sharing the beauty of their creations and making homes happy, one rug at a time. Their shared values of integrity, ethical practices, and philanthropy are woven into the very fabric of the brand.

The Indian Craftsman’s story is also deeply rooted in the heart of India’s textile capital, Panipat, Haryana, a city as ancient as the times of the Mahabharata. Here, amidst this rich heritage, Pran and Deepali build each product from the ground up, ensuring that every rug, pillow, or piece of home dΓ©cor is made fresh and directly from loom to homeβ€”cutting out middlemen, massive overheads, and passing on the value to our customers.

Our commitment to sustainability is strong, and we take great pride in choosing only eco-friendly, biodegradable materials for our creations. We believe that crafting beautiful products should not come at the expense of the planet, and each item we create is a testament to our dedication to the environment and future generations.

Deepali and Pran's family is their biggest inspiration. Their two children, Karan and Sidharth, share in this vision. Karan, a nature lover and textile engineer from one of India’s top institutions, brings his deep understanding of fabric and sustainability to the brand. Sidharth, a software developer at a leading U.S. tech company, brings a fresh, innovative perspective on modern business practices.

Together, as a family, we walk hand in handβ€”guiding The Indian Craftsman forward with love, integrity, and a passion for creating timeless, sustainable pieces for your home. To us, every customer is not just a buyer, but part of the family. We value your trust and work relentlessly to ensure that each product you receive from us is a true reflection of our dedication to quality, ethics, and the love that binds us.

Thank you for choosing us. Your home, your happiness, and your values are what matter most to us. We look forward to being a part of your home, creating warmth, beauty, and lasting memories for you and your loved ones.
